Historic Note: Presentation of #6213 to the City of Toronto

Derek Boles, TRHA's historian, publishes a daily posting on the Toronto Railway Heritage Yahoo Group List. These postings document major railway oriented events that happened on that day of the year. One of today's items is as follows:

"September 8, 1960:
.
Canadian National Railways steam locomotive No. 6213 is formally presented to the City of Toronto. The engine had already been moved to its present location adjacent to the Stanley Barracks at the "New Fort," then the Marine Museum of Upper Canada. Built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1942, the locomotive operated over a million miles throughout Canada, including extensive service in the Toronto area.

For several years after the presentation, No. 6213 was maintained by the Upper Canada Railway Society and later by the Toronto Locomotive Preservation Society. The locomotive was moved to the Toronto Railway Heritage Centre in June 2009 and is now the crown jewel of the collection. Cab visits hosted by TRHA member Lionel Levitt attract hundreds of visitors every weekend."
