Trip Report: Canada Science and Technology Museum, Ottawa

The Science and Technology Museum is a must for any railway enthusiast visiting Ottawa. It has an excellent collection of steam locomotives from both CN and CP, as well as a selection of rolling stock.

Unfortunately, much of the museum’s collection is hidden from view in their storage warehouse, but five of their steam locomotives are on display. CN 6200, a sister of Toronto’s 6213, is displayed on the front lawn. CP 926, CP 2858, CP 3100 and CN 6400 are all on display in the museum’s steam locomotive room. You can visit 3100’s and 2858’s cabs and walk around the outside of all the engines.

Also on display in the locomotive room is CN 76109, a caboose from prior to 1895, complete with restored interior. Visitors can also see “Terra Nova”, a CN business car built for use in Newfoundland on the island’s narrow 42-inch gauge railway.

The photographs show three of the museum’s locomotives: CN 6200 on the lawn and CN 6400 and CP 3100 in the museum. The other two photographs show the interior of the CN caboose and the business car “Terra Nova”.
