Weekend Report: Steam Punks Visit Roundhouse Park - Part 1

Hosting conventions where devoted fans of science fiction, comic books, horror films, game heroes and anime turn out to show off their spectacular costumes, participate in workshops, buy from 100's of vendors and meet stars in their gendres is a big business. This past weekend, Fanexpo Canada held such a convention at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre across the street from Roundhouse Park.

One of the groups in this hobby is called the "steam punk" movement. Wikipedia describes it as follows:

"Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes fictional works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era Britain—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, often featuring futuristic technology as the people of this historical period would have envisioned it to look like ......."

This past weekend, a group of elaborately costumed steam punk enthusiasts dropped by to visit Roundhouse Park and to set up some photo opportunities. Richard White, a TRHA volunteer, captured the action in the accompanying images.
