Repairing the flat car!

Click on each image for a closer look!
.
The flat car as we received it was in need of some serious repair work. In an earlier report, we documented our progress in replacing the bearing brasses in the trucks which were missing from the car as we got it. As can be seen in the images above, there was also serious damage to one end of the car in particular.
.
During the last week and well into the weekend, a team of volunteers worked at removing surplus steel and replacing damaged parts of the flat car. We also stripped the rotten wood from the deck and wire brushed the worst of the rust.
.
The flat car now sports a fresh coat of black paint and is ready to be re-decked with fresh timber. Tomorrow's news posting will include shots of the repaired and repainted car.
