February 16th and 17th steam excursion on the Waterloo Central

There will be a steam train excursion in the Kitchener/Waterloo area next weekend.  Here is the announcement:

"Please come back in time with us as our newly restored steam locomotive makes its first winter appearance in many years on the Waterloo Central Railway.    Steam locomotive Essex Terminal Railway No. 9, built in 1923 by the Montreal Locomotive Works, will be operating in passenger service over the Family Day week-end.  Our special trains will travel from the City of Waterloo through the picturesque snow covered farms of Woolwich Township to Elmira and return.

We are very excited about this winter special and hope that you will come out and be part of the festivities.  This week-end will also feature the 10th Annual Waterloo Ice Dogs Festival at the Uptown Waterloo Public Square which will be our departure point for the week-end.

On Saturday, February 16th & Monday, February 18th , our special steam excursion will operate with steam locomotive ETR No. 9 from Uptown Waterloo to Elmira & return. We depart from the Uptown Waterloo Public Square at 1 PM with the round trip to Elmira taking approximately 2.5 hours.  There will be no photo run pasts or stops on these trips.

Round Trip Fares:

Adult: $25        Child (3-14): $15

Family: $75   Family is 2 Adults & 3 Children

Tickets can be purchased on-line at or purchased in person at the Centre In The Square box office located at 101 Queen Street North, Kitchener. An additional ticket surcharge will apply for box office purchases.

All trains will depart from the Uptown Waterloo Public Square located adjacent to The Shops at Waterloo Town Square, 75 King Street South, Waterloo (Between Erb Street and Willis Way)

Parking is available at Waterloo Town Square as well as the nearby City of Waterloo Visitor Information & Heritage Centre (Train Station) at 10 Father David Bauer Drive and other Uptown Waterloo parking lots.  Please arrive early as parking is limited.  Please note during the winter months the Train Station is closed. "

Steam operations in Ontario are few and far between, especially in the winter months.  Take advantage of this opportunity it you can!
