Rotary snow plows - Conquerors of the deepest snow drifts!



Continuing with your field trip to watch snow plows in action, in the video above, we find the Illinois Live Steamers have constructed a simple "rotary snow plow". Here, they use their 4-8-4 Northern Steam Engine to clear theack for some winter operations!

In the video below, we see two steam engines pushing a steam driven rotary snow plow on the famed White Pass and Yukon narrow gauge railway.  Progress was slower than with high speed "bladed" plows but the rotaries could cut through drifts higher than the train itself.
