Restoring the Cape Race Vestibule Trap Doors

As we learned from our successful but time consuming work in restoring the TH&B Caboose, restoration can be a long arduous task.  Dan Cheer, one of our restoration crew volunteers, sends us the photos below which show the deterioration in the Cape Race passenger car's vestibule floor plates which dropped down over the stairs when the train was in motion. These were originally called "vestibule trap doors" in the original patents which one of our volunteers, Stephen Gardiner, unearthed at this link.

It is clearly evident from the images below that it will require a lot of time and effort to restore the door to its original state.
