The Fowler Boxcar gets some tender loving care!
The Fowler boxcar is getting some much needed tender loving care this month in the Stall 15 restoration space. The car is in generally good condition but needs roof work and certain wood parts of the chassis need to be replaced.
Here we see our volunteers cleaning flaking paint off the cars exterior and working on a new wood component of a coupler pocket. Our list of stabilization work includes:
- Replacing the sheet-steel outer cover of the roof with a new rubber membrane
- Replacing rotted timbers where possible
- Fixing the doors and their tracks
- Re-finishing the exterior.
